There are quite a few screen mounted pet doors on the market, and we do not carry most of them. The reason for our limited selection is that the majority of them attach directly to the screen mesh itself. While you can buy this style of door in a size large enough for a large breed dog, in practice they don't hold up well. When a Laborador Retriever sees a squirrel in the back yard and hits that kind of door at a run the doggy door frame will rip out of the screen. As always, The Pet Door Store has a policy that if we wouldn't buy it, we won't sell it. We do carry a couple screen mesh mounted doors, but only in cat sizes and we advise that they only be used with cats.
The Hale Pet Door was designed to attach to the frame of a sliding screen door, but it can be modified prior to shipping at no cost to fit a swinging screen door or a screened porch. It is the highest quality pet door for screens available, and it is available in sizes for cats all the way up to Great Danes. The flap on this door is clear and it is available in larger sizes, which distinguishes it from the Pride Screen door.
The Pride series of pet screen doors are sold as a kit which allows a pet door to be mounted on older style 1/2" thick or thinner aluminum sliding screen doors. It attaches on the side and bottom, making it much stronger than a pet door which just clips to the screen itself. In this way they have made the dog door screen frames strong enough for large dogs to use. The Pride door works without the adapter for installation in the kick plate of a metal screen door.
The Pet Safe Screen Unit attaches to the screen mesh, so it can be installed in any screen. will allow your cat to continue using this access without letting bugs in the house. These pet doors are also very popular for customers who like to leave the sliding glass door open and the sliding screen door shut, but still want kitty to have access.
The Ideal Screen Fit is similar to the Pet Safe in that it also attaches to the screen mesh. It has a hard plastic flap which may be more durable than the Pet Safe's screen flap. Like any pet door which attaches to the screen, we suggest this one be used for cats.
The Ideal Screen Guard is a unique pet door which works on protective mesh screen guards. A hole is cut in the screen and the guard, and the pet door clamps both together and seals them to the pet door frame. This is an easy to install solution for a longstanding pet door problem.
The Bug Warden is the only product on this page that is not a pet door. It is an adapter that allows your sliding screen door to work in conjunction with a sliding glass pet door panel. It is simple to install and doesn't require drilling any holes in the pet door or the sliding door. The Thermo Panel IIIe and Quick Panel III sliding glass pet doors come with a free Bug Warden, but it can be used with any pet door panel.
