Pride has a sturdy solution for those who want to let their pets out through a screen. This kit includes their adapter frame and pet door. The adapter frame attaches to your existing screen frame in a lower corner, the screen laces into the side and top of the adapter. The pet door then attaches to the adapter frame. The pet door uses a durable black rubber flap with magnets to ensure tight closure. If you would prefer a clear flap, take a look at the Hale Screen Pet Door. Because this unit is attached to the metal frame for the screen on two sides, rather than the screen mesh itself, it is even suitable for use with large dogs. The small size is suitable for average cats and dogs to about 7 lbs, the medium is good for dogs to 40 lbs, and the large will accommodate dogs to 80 lbs. The rise is entirely dependent on the size of the screen framing. Most Pride screen pet doors will end up with a rise of about 4-5 inches. For tall dogs the Hale Screen Pet Door may be a better choice. Pride has 5 available colors: White, Bronze (dark brown), Satin (aluminum), Tan, and Black. This type of installation is much stronger than a pet door that just clips to the screen mesh, like the Pet Safe Screen Door.
Due to the screen frame thickness this unit fits MOST older aluminum framed sliding screen doors. It does not fit newer screen doors with wood or vinyl frames, nor will it work on ANY swinging screen doors. This unit also will not work on screened porches. If you are intending to install the pet door in any of the above locations, choose the Hale screen door instead.
