The Pet Safe door is a semi-permanent spring
loaded door. This means that the height is adjusted by the spring
load mechanism, and then the pet door is screwed into the sliding
door track. It mounts this way so that a conventional hook and latch
style lock can be used. The hook comes off the pet door and catches
the corresponding latch which is installed onto your sliding glass
door. While this may be very similar in operation to your existing
door lock, the pet door uses its own lock and is not designed to
work with the existing lock on your door. After installation your
lock will still be there (although no longer functional), and about
a foot above the original lock the new pet door lock will be mounted.
The pet door has a good quality flap and seals
well, but requires a more complicated installation than a temporary
pet door like the Thermo Panel III, Quick Panel III, or Ideal panels. If
you are renting, or you have a vinyl door and don't want to drill holes
into the plastic frame of your slider, consider buying a pet door with
a temporary installation.
Lifetime warranty on the frame and glass, one year warranty on the
flap.
The color sample on the
right will vary with your particular monitor, and the colors of the
pet doors vary slightly by manufacturer, but it is shown to give
an approximate idea of the colors available. Satin is actually a
brushed aluminum, similar to the bottom of a soda can.
