ELECTRONIC PET DOOR
Ani Mate Elite Selective

  • Runs on 4 AA batteries
  • 4 way lock
  • RFID chip collar keys are durable
  • Keeps out strays and raccoons
  • Choose from White or Brown frame
  • Flap seals to frame with pile weather stripping
  • Just add tunnel sections for wall installation
  • 2 collar keys
  • Does not work with steel doors

The Ani-Mate company just released the new Elite pet door to their electronic pet door line. This pet door is a big step up for a number of reasons. The flap locks electronically in both directions. This makes the door much harder for raccoons to break into. The manufacturer claims this door is raccoon proof. The RFID tags are not as sensitive to placement as the previous magnetic keys were. In addition to the electronic locking mechanism, this door retains the 4 way lock, so you can let pets in only, out only, or it can be fully locked or open (for cats with the key collars).

Tunnel sections to "frame out" a wall installation are available too. The door normally self frames to a depth of 2 inches. Additional plastic tunnels sections just stack on, and each adds another 2 inches of frame depth. The last one can then be trimmed to fit the depth of the wall.

The Elite Super Selective versions has additional benefits:

  • Supports 8 different collar frequencies (normal version handles 7)
  • Individually programmable per collar frequency to allow access for some cats and not others
  • Shows location (inside or outside) of up to 3 cats
  • Includes a timer control
  • 2 collar keys

Attention Elite Buyers:

We have had some returns from customers who say that the door won't open unless the key is TOUCHING the flap and several who said the keys don't work at all. This was hard to believe because AniMate has a QC check before they ship this to us distributors. In playing with the door a bit, we have figured out the issue: Two things must happen for the door to unlock: 1. The key must be within range and 2. The cat must push on the flap. If you hold the key in range the door won't respond at all. If you touch the key to the flap, you've pushed on the flap and it will work. If you want to test this unit before you install it, hold the key several inches from the flap and then push on the flap and it will unlock. Mystery solved. We think this simple explanation will prevent future returns.

ATTENTION CUSTOMERS LOOKING FOR PET DOOR TIMERS: The Elite Super Selective has this capacity. It requires the key to be within range and the pets to nudge the door to open it. Solution: Tape the key to the pet door frame just below the display. This will not kill the battery, as the door doesn't actually do anything until the pets push the flap. At that point it "looks for" the key, and opens if it is present. If the key is always there, you can simply set the timer for in only, out only, locked, or open at whatever time of day you want. If you have cats that you don't want roaming at night, set it for in only after 8PM. If you have little dogs that bark in the morning, set the door so that it won't open until after 8AM.

PDS Grade for Elite Doors- B+
Elite doors are the only inexpensive electronic doors that are raccoon proof. We like this door a lot and would give it an A, but it doesn't work well with aluminum or steel doors, which cuts out a lot of potential customers.
