The Ideal Ruff Weather door is a very weather-tight
plastic framed pet door with dual clear vinyl flaps. Increasing the
distance between the flaps provides more insulating dead air space.
Ideal accomplished this by manufacturing a thick plastic frame. The
frame protrudes from the door it is mounted on by about 3 inches on
the inside and 3 inches on the outside. The flaps are mounted at the
outermost part of the frame. This creates about 7 inches of dead air
space in between the flaps when it is installed in a regular door,
and results in a great door for extreme climates. When this door
is used in a wall you can have up to 12 inches between flaps. We recommend
that you choose a larger size than would for a door installation
because of the long "tunnel" your pets will have to negotiate. If you want the double flap effect but prefer to have a more flush mounted frame, check out the Endura , the Hale Security, and the Dogwalk pet doors.
The plastic frame will not corrode like an aluminum door in high salinity
environments, like near the ocean. The two flaps are sealed to the frame with pile
weather strips, and the door comes with locking cover tracks for
the inside and outside frames (one locking cover ships with the door). Limited lifetime
warranty.
This wall kit allows the Ruff Weather to be installed
in a wall with relative ease. The kit includes 4 white plastic tunnel
pieces, and bolt extensions needed to connect the frames through
the wall.
