Ideal Pet Door Flaps
- Ideal is the most common pet door on the market
- Flaps for plastic "Original" and aluminum framed "Deluxe" doors are different
The Ideal Pet door company is one of the biggest and most popular in the USA. This company produces several different lines of pet doors. Their flaps all have a chrome strip across the bottom. Most say Made in the USA on them, and many have the size embossed right into the flap, which makes it easy to know which size to purchase.
The Original pet door has a plastic frame and the flap attaches with screws across the top of the flap. The Deluxe pet door has an aluminum frame and the flap attaches to a metal bar with NO SCREWS SHOWING ABOVE THE FLAP.
Most, but not all of the Ideal panels have plastic pet doors in them. The way to tell if you need the plastic or aluminum version is to check if your flap attaches via phillips screws across the top of the flap, or if it slides into the metal frame piece at the top of the pet door opening.
When you place your order, start by choosing the size you want. You will be forwarded to a screen where you can choose whether you would like a flap for a plastic or aluminum framed door.
Sometimes the plastic frame around the flap can break. If your plastic frame has broken you can order the frame with the flap and flap bar (this is basically what you see on the top right picture). This is called an Inside Frame with Flap Assembly, and it replaces the pet door portion of the Ideal Panel pet doors and also replaces the inside half of the frame for the Original Ideal dog doors for standard doors.
