The owner of Turner Prospect Company was very motivated to make this product. He has a large outside dog and some smaller indoor/outdoor pets that use a small pet door. The larger dog would constantly stick his head through the small pet door to see what was going on inside the house, and break the flap in doing so. After the sixth flap replacement, Mr. Turner had had enough. Necessity was again the mother of invention.

While this hood will protect the flap of a small door from a larger dog as it was designed, it has numerous other benefits. The hood blocks wind from blowing directly on the flap, and also keeps rain from hitting the pet door. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can damage flaps, and the pet door hood shades the flaps and prolongs flap life.

Installation is very easy, as the hood comes pre-drilled and attaches with 4 self-tapping wood screws. It can be attached to a door or wall. The hood protrudes 6" from the surface of a door, so it doesn't significantly restrict the movement of the door. White ABS plastic can be painted to match walls or doors (clear hoods shown are just for demostrations).
